Is 12C27 steel good for knives?
With a hardness range of 54-61 HRC, high toughness, scary sharpness and good corrosion resistance, 12C27™ is the recommended grade for hunting knives, pocket knives, camping knives, high-end chef’s knives and tactical knives. Like most of our knife steels this grade is fineblankable enabling efficient production.
What kind of steel is 12C27?

What is Sandvik 12c27 Steel. It’s a low-end Swedish martensitic stainless chromium steel, belt and optimized for knives, so you’ll generally find in kitchen knives, hunting knives, fishing knives and also for ice drills and skate blades.
Can you forge 12C27?
12c27 is not forged, only ground to shape so there is less of a need to normalise than when forging carbon steel. The Hardening: Heat treating 12c27 requires a temperature controlled forge. A thermocouple with a sensor in a hole drilled through the side of the forge is an easy way to do so.
How stainless is 12C27?
12C27 steel toughness is among the best in stainless steel blades. Its toughness is highly comparable but slightly lower to AEB-L steel, 14C28N steel, and 420HC stainless steel.
What is Sandvik 12C27 steel?
Sandvik 12C27™ is a martensitic stainless chromium steel with an optimized analysis for high quality professional knife applications. After heat treatment, the composition of carbon and chromium gives a unique combination of properties including: Very high hardness. Good corrosion resistance.
What is Sandvik steel?
Sandvik 12C27 steel is Swedish low-end steel often compared to Chinese 8Cr13MoV. Both steels offer almost similar properties, but the Chinese 8Cr13MoV steel variant has higher hardness due to the addition of Vanadium, Molybdenum, and Nickel in its alloy.
