Are ombudsman decisions public?
As an open and accountable ombudsman service we are committed to having transparent decision making processes. We publish all of our decisions. Real names are not used. In certain cases where it is not in the complainant’s interest or anonymity may be compromised, we can decide not to publish a decision.
Are ombudsmen free?
Ombudsmen are independent, free and impartial – so they don’t take sides. You should try and resolve your complaint with the organisation before you complain to an ombudsman.
Can ombudsman decision be challenged?
You can apply to the High Court to challenge an Ombudsman’s decision because it is legally flawed – this is called judicial review – but you have to act quickly and you may need to take advice, for example from a solicitor, law centre or Citizens Advice Bureau. There is no other way to challenge our decisions.

Does the ombudsman have any power?
The Ombudsman has the right to summon persons and papers (i.e., to require the attendance of witnesses and to have access to information) and absolute privilege to protect his or her reports. These powers are analagous to the powers of a High Court Judge.
What are the limitations of the ombudsman?
Limitation to the powers of Ombudsman It has no executive power to enforce decisions. It cannot investigate the activities of top officials in government: It can only be involved in matters affecting officers of lower grades but not ministers, Governors of states and or Director Generals.
How long does bank ombudsman take to make a decision?
If a complaint is not settled by an agreement within a period of one month, the Banking Ombudsman proceeds further to pass an Award. Before passing an award, the Banking Ombudsman provides reasonable opportunity to the complainant and the bank, to present their case.
