Does acetone improve gas mileage?

No. Acetone won’t significantly boost your mileage and could damage your engine. Acetone is a powerful solvent that’s used as paint thinner and nail polish remover, so it’s very corrosive. That’s why many automakers specifically warn against using it.

What happens if you mix gasoline with acetone?

The false premise is that acetone creates an explosive factor on the surface of drops of gasoline. The acetone allegedly makes the gas evaporate more quickly, creating a higher density before the gas goes into the cylinder to ignite the spark plugs. Thus, creating a gas mileage improvement of 25 to 30 percent.

How much acetone is in a gallon of gas?

Add in tiny amounts from about one part per 5000 to one part per 500, depending on the vehicle — just a few ounces per ten gallons of gas. Figure 1: Percentage MILEAGE GAIN when a tiny amount of acetone is added to fuel.

Is it true the faster you go the more gas you burn?

Speeding increases fuel consumption and decreases fuel economy as a result of tire rolling resistance and air resistance. While vehicles reach optimal fuel economy at different speeds, gas mileage usually decreases rapidly at speeds above 50 miles per hour (mph).

What is the octane rating of acetone?

Acetone is 150 octane.

Will mothballs increase octane?

For years mothballs have been a favorite “underground” quick fix for obtaining higher octane in gasoline. Modern-day mothballs are made of naphthalene and, indeed, they will offer a temporary power and octane boost to any car, old or new. As you say, they are much cheaper than commercial octane boosters.

Is nitromethane a fuel?

Nitromethane is a colorless, oily liquid with a mild disagreeable or fruity odor. It is used as a propellant, fuel additive, rocket fuel, and solvent, and in making dyes, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and explosives.

Can you put ketchup in gas tank?

Considering ketchup is made up of organic compounds, the gas-ketchup cocktail will likely burn up, making your car’s engine, at worst, run rough. You will have to thoroughly clean your gas tank, fuel lines, injectors, and replace your fuel filter after the fact.

Does windows down waste gas?

Neither is good for your car’s mpg numbers. Opening the windows increases drag, and slows the car down — so it needs more fuel to run. Running the A/C puts an extra load on the engine — so it needs more fuel to run.

Does turning off heat in car save gas?

To get answers we first went to experts at the Energy Information Administration who said, “Typically, both using heat and air conditioning will reduce fuel economy and cause vehicles to use more gasoline than with both turned off.
