In the 2017 classification, more than 80 mature lymphoma entities are recognized, grouped into 3 major categories: B-cell neoplasms, T-cell and NK-cell neoplasms, and Hodgkin lymphomas (HLs) (Table 1). Both lymphomas and lymphoid leukemias are included in this classification.

What is follicular lymphoma grade IIIA?

The grade is based on the number of large, follicular lymphoma cells (centroblasts) that they can see. Grade 1, 2 and 3A are generally thought to be low grade or slow growing. Grade 3B follicular lymphoma is faster growing and is likely to be treated as a high grade lymphoma.

How are non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas classified?

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is divided into more than 30 types, classified based on the type of lymphocyte involved: B lymphocytes (B cells) or T lymphocytes (T cells). Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is further classified by other factors, including whether it is aggressive (fast-growing) or indolent (slow-growing).

What stage is Grade 3 a follicular lymphoma?

Stage 1 or stage 2 follicular lymphoma is known as ‘early-stage’ lymphoma. Stage 3 or stage 4 follicular lymphoma is known as ‘advanced-stage’ lymphoma. Most people have advanced stage follicular lymphoma when they are diagnosed.

What is the most curable type of lymphoma?

Hodgkin lymphoma is also known as Hodgkin’s disease. It usually begins in a type of B cell that is found in the bone marrow. Hodgkin’s disease is considered one of the most curable forms of cancer, especially if it is diagnosed and treated early.

What is high grade lymphoma?

‘High-grade’ means the cancer cells are dividing quickly, so ‘high-grade’ lymphomas are fast-growing. They are often described as aggressive. This might sound worrying but fast-growing cells are often more sensitive to treatment than slow-growing cells. Many high-grade lymphomas are treated with the aim of curing them.

Which form of lymphoma is worse?

The type of chemotherapy you receive will depend on how aggressive the cancer is. “T-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas tend to be more aggressive,” Strati says. “Whereas B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas may be more slow-growing.”

Is grade 3 follicular lymphoma curable?

Survival for grade 3a and 3b follicular lymphoma: (A) overall survival; (B) cause-specific survival; (C) failure-free survival. A total of 40 patients with FL grade 3 are alive. Among them, 18 patients are in continuous remission after first therapy. Of the 15 patients who died, nine died of lymphoma.

What is the who classification for small T-cell lymphoma (TLPD)?

The 2016 WHO classification has changed the nomenclature of primary cutaneous CD4-positive small/medium T-cell lymphoma to primary cutaneous CD4-positive small/medium TLPD to reflect the indolent clinical behavior of this entity.

What are the different types of lymphoma classification systems?

Over the years, various classification systems have been used to differentiate lymphoma types including the Rappaport Classification (used until the 70’s), the Working Formulation, the National Cancer Institute Working Formulation, and the Revised European-American Lymphoma Classification (REAL).
