What does an electric meter measure?

To measure the amount of electricity or gas that you use, the utility installs a meter between the incoming electric power or gas lines and the point of distribution at your house. The meter monitors your daily power or gas usage, and the utility will send out a meter reader to record your usage.

Definition: The meter which is used for measuring the energy utilises by the electric load is known as the energy meter. The energy is the total power consumed and utilised by the load at a particular interval of time. It is used in domestic and industrial AC circuit for measuring the power consumption.

How do I get a smart meter NZ?

Smart meters are typically installed in the same place as the old analogue meter and are usually located on an exterior wall of your house. Some retailers provide online services that tell you instantly if you have a smart meter. You just need to type in your address on their website.

It turns out that both of the lower-cost power meters are very accurate at measuring wattage and power factor. However, our power meter is better at displaying kilowatt-hours (kWh), which is what you pay for. As an example, our power meter is very precise, showing kWh to 3 decimal places.
