What is Fraunhofer Institute for ceramic technologies and systems IKTS?

The Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS conducts applied research on high-performance ceramics. The institute‘s three sites in Dresden and Hermsdorf (Thuringia), Germany, collectively represent Europe‘s largest R&D institute dedicated to the study of ceramics.

What does Fraunhofer IKTS do?

As a research and technology service provider, the Fraunhofer IKTS develops advanced high-performance ceramic materials, industrial manufacturing processes as well as prototype components and systems in complete production lines up to the pilot-plant scale. In addition, the research portfolio also includes materials diagnostics and testing.

How long has IKTS been developing SOFCs?

For 10 years, IKTS has been developing various stack designs, constructed them as prototypes and tested them for their suitability. The current trend of SOFC development is toward realizing stacks for different applications and load profiles.

What is the role of IKTS?

For this purpose, IKTS selects and tests various components within the stack environment (e.g. long-term and cycle tests) and develops cost-efficient and automatable manufacturing processes for stack production.

Why Fraunhofer IWKS?

At Fraunhofer IWKS, with its locations in Alzenau and Hanau, technologies and concepts are developed for the establishment of a closed-loop economy. The goal is a closed material cycle in which there is no or hardly any waste. Waste is avoided by recovering and recycling valuable raw materials or replacing them with sustainable alternatives.

Where does Fraunhofer conduct its research?

Its research activities are conducted by 75 institutes and research institutions at locations throughout Germany. International collaboration with outstanding research partners and companies from around the world brings Fraunhofer into direct contact with the key regions that drive scientific progress and economic development.

What is the Fraunhofer IMWS?

The Fraunhofer IMWS wants to provide a platform with data on copper alloy materials along the entire life cycle together with partners. The data, which is linked by means of ontologies, connects material characterization, alloy development, performance and service life through to recycling.
