Can you replace bike wheel spokes?
Don’t panic: you can fix this. You need to know how to true a wheel and a spoke key. If it doesn’t work out, hand the wheel over to your bike shop; you’ll be no worse off for trying. You’re unlikely to have a spare spoke with you if one snaps when you’re riding to work, nor the time or spoke key required to fit it.
Can you replace a spoke without removing the cassette?
If the spoke nipple is undamaged and there’s still a few cm of spoke left, you can replace it without removing the nipple, which is much quicker, though not the best long-term fix. Bend the spoke stub by 90 degrees, use a spoke key to hold the nipple and unwind the spoke.

How do you measure bike spokes?
Pull both spoke heads inward towards the center to seat the nipples. Using the narrow tips of the caliper jaws, measure from inside to inside of each J-bend. Record this measurement to the nearest tenth of a millimeter. In our example, each spoke measured 266 mm, with the J-bend-to-J-bend at 35.7 mm.
