Is what I pump the same as what my baby gets?
This is about the myth that a mother who is exclusively breastfeeding should pump, see what she gets, and that is what baby eats per feeding. (Ie: if mom pumps 9oz in a session, that’s what baby is getting each feed. If mom pumps a quarter of an ounce in a session, that’s what baby is getting. That is a myth.
How do I travel with pumped milk?
Breast milk, formula, and juice are all allowed in your carry-on bag. Unlike shampoo and other liquids, breast milk is exempt from the “limited quantity rule” of 3.4 ounces. Let the TSA agents know you’re traveling with breast milk and separate your pump and bottles (empty or full) from other liquids for screening.

How do you fly with frozen milk?
HOW TO PACK YOUR FROZEN BREAST MILK TO TRAVEL ON AN AIRPLANE
- Line the inside of the bag with aluminum foil.
- Pack the breast milk bags tight.
- Use ice packs throughout the bag.
- Pack the cooler bag completely full (if possible)
- Label the outside of the bag for TSA.
- Do not open the cooler bag once it is packed.
How much baby milk can you take on a plane?
There is no legal limit to how much you can take however check with your airport before you travel. You can carry breast milk in hand luggage even if you’re not travelling with a baby. You cannot carry frozen breast milk in hand luggage. Individual containers of breast milk must hold no more than 2,000ml.

How long do you pump for?
Once your milk supply begins to increase from drops to ounces, you may want to pump longer than 10 minutes. Many women find that pumping for about two minutes after the last drop of milk is an effective way to stimulate more milk, however, avoid pumping for longer than 20 – 30 minutes at a time.

Does pumping milk hurt?
Once you begin to pump, there should be a small amount of air around your nipple. During the first 10-15 seconds, you may feel a bit uncomfortable as your nipples start to stretch. Then as your milk starts to flow, you may feel a tingling “pins and needles” sensation. But pumping shouldn’t hurt.
How do I pump?
Turn your pump on. Similar to a baby nursing at the breast, start out with high speed and low suction until you see milk flow (let-down), then adjust speed to medium and increase suction based on comfort level. Once milk flow decreases, increase speed to high until the next let-down, then decrease to medium speed.
