Can a nurse perform Pap smear?

Conclusions: After one week of training, nurses can collect Pap test specimens that are of the same quality as the specimens collected by physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.

Is LSIL and CIN 1 the same?

CIN is graded on a scale of 1 to 3, based on how abnormal the cells look under a microscope and how much of the cervical tissue is affected. LSIL (also called low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion, or mild dysplasia) seen on a Pap test is generally CIN 1.

What is an abnormal Pap smear?

What Does It Mean if a Pap Smear Is Abnormal? Healthy cervical cells are thin and flat. If your Pap test is abnormal, this means that your sample contained abnormally shaped cervical cells. Most of the abnormal cells found during a Pap test are the result of a cervical or vaginal infection and are not cancerous.

What does iodine positive mean?

cancer. Well-defined, bright yellow iodine non- uptake areas touching the squamo- columnar junction (SCJ) or close to the os if SCJ is not seen. Test-positive. Squamous epithelium turns brown and columnar epithelium does not change color; or irregular, partial or non- iodine uptake areas appear. Test-negative.

What does iodine negative mean?

Iodine negative areas include columnar epithelium (lacking glycogen), patchy uptake peripheral areas due to cervicitis, and immature metaplasia. These can be mistaken by inexperienced workers as VILI positive. Mustard yellow areas with distinct borders suggest more severe disease.

Is Pap smear necessary for virgin?

How long does it take to go from CIN1 to CIN3?

There are three grades of CIN (CIN1,2&3) and even CIN3 starts 10 years before cervical cancer. CIN2 & CIN3 are high grade changes and need to be treated to prevent future risk of cervical cancer whereas CIN1 (low grade changes) will often resolve spontaneously.

What happens if you have CIN 3?

CIN 3 is not cancer, but may become cancer and spread to nearby normal tissue if not treated. Treatment for CIN 3 may include cryotherapy, laser therapy, loop electrosurgical procedure (LEEP), or cone biopsy to remove or destroy the abnormal tissue. CIN 3 is sometimes called high-grade or severe dysplasia.

What does iodine do in colposcopy?

We recommend the routine use of iodine application in colposcopic practice as this may help in identifying lesions overlooked during examination with saline and acetic acid and will help in delineating the anatomical extent of abnormal areas much more clearly, thereby facilitating treatment.
