The Spellplague is a malady that struck Realmspace on 29th Tarsakh, 1385 DR and was caused by Mystra’s assassination at the hands of Cyric and Shar.
How long did the Spellplague last?
It seems that the Spellplague had its effect lasted for around 10 years and it seems that the Time of Troubles lasted around 1 year.
How did the Spellplague change magic?
After the initial terror of the Spellplague receded, mages discovered that it had changed the way magic worked all across the face of Faerûn. The most obvious effects were the floating earthmotes that hovered in the sky and the occasional Spellplague pockets that continue to burn with blue fire.
What happened when Mystra died?
However, when Mystra is assassinated, the result is a collapse of the Weave, an event known as the Spellplague.
