How does wooden incense box work?

Can you burn incense on wood?

First we recommend letting your “loose incense mixture” sit at least overnight to allow the ingredients to “blend” together. Once aged a day or more, you are then ready to add your makko and form the incense into whatever shapes you desire. We recommend testing a small amount of your mixture first.
Is it safe to make an incense holder out of air dry clay?
Most air-dry clays (and any kinds of clay) will be fine as an incense burner (for cone or stick types of incense) as long as the hot coal isn’t touching or really close to the clay.
