Are auriculas easy to grow?
They are hardy alpine plants that are used to being under a layer of snow in the winter. Alpine and double auriculas are also not very fussy plants and can be grown as above.

When should I buy auriculas?
Auriculas are hardy and like the cold, so don’t worry about the frosts, just keep sheltered away from heavy rainfall and snow in the winter months. At Woottens we release our Auricula availability each year in late February when propagation is completed. Plants can then be ordered for dispatch in late March.
How do you grow auricula?
Being alpines, auriculas need a careful watering regime. This is why most are grown in pots rather than in the bare ground, to maintain a free-draining soil environment. In spring, plants benefit from a dose of high nitrogen fertiliser, followed by weekly watering with tomato fertiliser during the flowering season.

Auriculas originated from a natural cross between Primula auricula and Primula hirsuta where they grow together in the Alps. The resulting hybrid, Primula pubescens, has been bred for over 400 years to produce the types and quality that we recognise today.
