How do I increase terrain resolution in Unity?

  1. Select your terrain and go the settings tab in the inspector.
  2. Scroll down to the section “Texture Resolutions (On Terrain Data)”
  3. Enter the new Heightmap Resolution you want and click ‘Resize’

What is Heightmap resolution?

In the Terrain examples I’ve found, the Heightmap/Detail Resolutions are usually 513/512 or 1025/1024.

How big is a Unity terrain?

Unity Technologies 1 unit, by, default is metre. So you may want 10000×10000 units. If you are making an ant game, then you may want 1 unit to be 1 millimetre. That’s entirely up to you.

What is detail resolution per patch?

Detail Resolution: The resolution of the map that controls grass and detail meshes. For performance reasons (to save on draw calls) the lower you set this number the better. So, it looks like smaller numbers = faster drawing. Hope this helps. Rick.

How big can a unity map be?

The limit for a single map is 2000, you can merge them until your pc allows you. I have copied a fully painted terrain around 4048~ times and everything was working properly. The rendering view ends at 2km. The terrains area does’t affect performance, the LOD does, grass etc.

How do you use height maps in unity?

Create a terrain in Unity

  1. Open Unity and create a new terrain. GameObject > 3D Object > Terrain.
  2. Import the heightmap (raw file).
  3. Set the heightmap width and height to 1024.
  4. Import the texture.
  5. Create a new terrain layer.
  6. In Tiling Setting define the texture size for the new layer.

How do I optimize graphics in unity?

CPU optimization

  1. Combine close objects together, either manually or using Unity’s draw call batching.
  2. Use fewer materials in your objects by putting separate textures into a larger texture atlas.
  3. Use fewer things that cause objects to be rendered multiple times (such as reflections, shadows and per-pixel lights).

How do I smooth terrain in Unity?

In the Terrain Inspector, click the Paint Terrain icon, and select Smooth Height from the list of Terrain tools. The Smooth Height tool does not significantly raise or lower the Terrain height; instead, it averages out nearby areas. This softens the landscape and reduces the appearance of abrupt changes.

What is detail resolution in unity?

Detail Resolution: The resolution of the map that controls grass and detail meshes. For performance reasons (to save on draw calls) the lower you set this number the better. So, it looks like smaller numbers = faster drawing.

How big is a terrain tile in unity?

1×1
when using textures from online they often look terrible unless terrain tile size is 1×1. a tile size too large will result in less calls but occupy too much memory space.
