What is the order of belts in Taekwondo?

There are eight belts in Taekwondo, the first being white, which you receive when you commence training. The following belts are yellow, blue, red, red/black, Cho Dan Bo, black/white and black belt. On each of the colour belts you wear stripes indicating your level of attainment on that belt.

What belt is the highest rank in Taekwondo?

The highest rank achievable, the black belt test requires a lot of work: one pattern, one-step sparring, two-step sparring, free sparring and multiple free sparring. You must also be able to defend against holds, clubs, knives and unarmed opponents, as well as break two three-inch boards with any kick or blow.

What does the tape on a Taekwondo belt mean?

Stripe System in Taekwondo. To indicate intermediate steps towards the next rank, some schools (including Akula Taekwondo) add tape stripes at the end of the belt when students reach training milestones. The stripes track achievement of short-term goals.

Do you wear clothes under Taekwondo uniform?

Women and girls will wear a t-shirt, tank top, sports bra or other appropriate clothing under their dobok top. Preferably the garments will be white if visible. For first Dan and higher a black undergarment is acceptable. Men and boys will not wear t-shirts or other shirts under their dobok tops.

Why are there nine degrees of black belt?

To go from one black belt degree to the next will take as many years as the belt you are going to test for. Getting a black belt is not an ending to your training but, it is just the beginning of learning Taekwondo, and that is why there are nine degrees of black belts.

What does a red stripe mean in Taekwondo?

The red stripe signifies a good attitude, a loud Kihap, and being brave. It is also the easiest stripe to lose! So to make sure you receive and keep your Red Stripe make sure each and every class we are loud, have a good attitude and we are very brave! Next is the white stripe!
