What is a 1310 drive shaft?

Size and strength. The 1310 series joint is what you would expect to find stock in most Jeep or small trucks. A 1350 series joint/shaft is what you might find in many full size trucks. While it’s not 100% accurate, you could say that a 1310 is a “half ton” joint and a 1350 is a “one ton joint”.

How much is a drive shaft worth?

In most cases, a new drive shaft costs somewhere between $300 and $1300. Fortunately, it only takes about an hour to replace it. A repair usually costs much less, around $200 to $300 including parts and labor, but this also depends on how many parts need to be replaced.

How do you tell the difference between a 1310 and 1350 u-joint?

Take note that the u-joint is only as strong as the smallest series number. The 1310 to 1350 U-Joint Cross Width is 3.625 (3 5/8”) on the 1350 side and 3.250 (3 1/4”) on the 1310 side. The Cap diameters are different as well. 1 1/16″ on the 1310 side and 1 3/16″ on the 1350 side.

What is the difference between 1330 and 1310 u-joint?

1330 joints use a larger body than the 1310 joint but the same-size trunnions and caps. They are often found in 3⁄4-ton trucks and allow more angularity than 1310 joints but are only marginally stronger. 1350 joints are found in 1-ton trucks and use the wider body of the 1330 joint but with larger trunnions and caps.

How much does a used driveshaft cost?

If you’re just replacing a half-shaft for your front wheel drive car, then it will cost anywhere from $470 to $940. You can expect the parts cost to be anywhere from $320 to $750, while the labor costs are only around $150 to $190.

What does upgrading your driveshaft do?

The addition of larger tires is also a big reason to change out those driveshafts. While tires themselves do not change suspension geometry, their heavier weight requires more initial torque to turn. A stronger aftermarket driveshaft has the toughness to put up with that extra needed power.

How do I know if I have a 2 piece driveshaft?

If you do have a 2 piece driveshaft then there will be a bearing to support the driveshaft near the center of it. This is called a carrier bearing. The picture above shows the difference between a one piece and a two piece driveshaft. The top one is a one piece and the bottom picture is a two piece driveshaft.
