Is there a vaccine for IBR in cattle?

INDICATIONS: Bovi-Shield IBR is for vaccination of healthy, nonpregnant cattle to prevent respiratory disease caused by infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) virus. A duration of immunity of at least 9 months has been demonstrated.

How is IBR spread?

IBR is a herpes virus that can be spread through nasal or genital secretions. Latently infected animals can recrudesce and shed virus when they are stressed, sick, or administered dexamethasone. Administration of vaccines does not eliminate infection, but it controls IBR abortions.

Where is IBR from?

The IBR virus is one of the most common causes of bovine abortion. Possible sources of the virus include new additions (shedders) to the herd, vaccines, birds or wild ruminants.

Should I vaccinate for IBR?

Because of the high prevalence of the disease, dairy and suckler farmers are advised to vaccinate against IBR with Bovilis® IBR Marker Live. Calves should get their first vaccination at three months of age, followed by a booster six months later and then annual vaccination.

How do I give IBR vaccine?

A single dose (2 ml) of Bovilis IBR marker live mixed with Bovilis BVD is given intramuscularly. Use sterile vaccination equipment free from disinfectants. To prevent the spread of any infective agents the intranasal equipment should be changed at each animal.

Does IBR cause pneumonia?

Infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) is a highly contagious respiratory disease. In serious cases, it can lead to pneumonia, particularly in calves.

What is IBR in agriculture?

Infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) is a disease of the upper respiratory tract caused by the virus, bovine herpesvirus 1 (BHV-1). It is highly contagious affecting cattle of all ages.

When should a cow be vaccinated for IBR?

Calves from 2 weeks of age to 3 months of age should receive a single dose of Rispoval IBR-Marker live by intranasal appplication with a follow up dose intramuscularly at 3 months of age. Animals at immediate risk of IBR should be vaccinated intranasally with a follow up dose intramuscularly.

What vaccines are used in cattle?

Cows are generally vaccinated for IBR, BVD, PI3, and BRSV virus, leptospirosis, clostridial, E. coli mastitis, and calf diarrhea diseases during the lactation period and/or the dry period. Modified live virus vaccines may not be able to be used at this time.

Is there an income limit for IBR?

Your eligibility for IBR is effectively a debt-to-income test – there is no official income limit. If your loan payments would be lower under IBR than if you paid off your loan in fixed payments over 10 years, you can enroll. If your income later increases, you are not disqualified to have your debt forgiven under IBR.

What is discretionary income for IBR?

Pertaining to the Income-Based Repayment Plan, the Pay As You Earn Repayment Plan, and loan rehabilitation, discretionary income is the difference between your annual income and 150 percent of the poverty guideline for your family size and state of residence.
