Why does my cat have a bald spot near her ear?

A less obvious cause, chronic stress can contribute to hair loss. Cats comfort themselves by grooming, and a stressed cat cleans itself more often. Constant licking and paw washing eventually affect areas with short fur like the head and ears. This particular condition is known as psychogenic alopecia.

How do you treat a bald spot on a cat?

This condition is best treated with products such as ‘spot-ons’ to eliminate the parasites. Products from the vet tend to be most effective, but sometimes additional treatments might be needed to relieve itching – for example, a course of steroid treatment.

Why does my cat have one bald spot?

By far the most common cause of a bald patch on your cat’s fur is fleas or other external parasites. This is especially common on your cat’s lower back and tail. Hair loss usually occurs when your cat has an allergic reaction to the fleas saliva causing them to overgroom.

Should I be concerned if my cat has a bald spot?

Keep an eye on the patch; if you don’t see hair growing back within a week, the patch changes in size or appearance, your cat looks to be irritated by it or you start to see more bald patches showing up, you’ll know it’s time to visit the vet.

Is Vaseline OK for cats?

It doesn’t add any moisture as it does not absorb into surfaces but forms an impenetrable protective layer. For this reason, Vaseline is widely considered safe for cats to eat also. Of course, it offers nothing nutritionally, so giving it to them just because they may like the taste or texture is not good.

How do you tell if your cat has mange or ringworm?

In mange, the hairs typically break off at the base, whereas in ringworm, they often break off part way down the shaft of the hair. Mange is most common in autumn (often brought on by the stress caused when moving animals indoors for the winter).

What does ringworm look like on cats ear?

Just like the name describes, a ringworm rash often looks like a ring. Ringworm typically appears on a cat’s face, tail, ear tips, and feet. The infection can include small, solid bumps or large bumps with open sores. Ringworm symptoms can vary in cats, too.
