What is the difference between Loctite 222 and 243?
LOCTITE® 222 – A low-strength purple threadlocker. Works on all metals and is especially good for applications that may require disassembly. LOCTITE® 243 – A medium-strength blue threadlocker that offers a good general-purpose solution to seal and secure assemblies.
Can I use nail polish as threadlocker?
Another common threadlocker alternative for small, quick jobs is nail polish. While it isn’t an adhesive, many people working with low-torque applications believe using nail polish as a threadlocker can stop fasteners coming loose.
Can you use Loctite 243 on plastic?
This product is not normally recommended for use on plastics (particularly thermoplastic materials where stress cracking of the plastic could result). Users are recommended to confirm compatibility of the product with such substrates.
Can I use superglue as a threadlocker?
Superglue and nail polish as threadlocker alternatives are two of the most common, often quoted as effective replacements for dedicated threadlockers. Using these two products can indeed lock a fastener in place in the short term.
What is Loctite 243 threadlocker?
LOCTITE® 243 is a general purpose threadlocker that provides a medium strength bond. LOCTITE 243 works on all metals, including passive substrates such as stainless steel, aluminum and plated surfaces. It is proven to be tolerant of minor contamination due to industrial oils, e.g., motor oils, corrosion prevention oils and cutting fluid.
Do you need a primer with 243 threadlocker?
It is recommended when working with aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium; black-oxide finishes, and cadmium and zinc coatings. Threadlockers begin to harden once coated surfaces are threaded together and exposure to air is blocked. 243 secures aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and plated fasteners without a primer.
