| 1/4-20 | 0.2500 | #7 |
| 1/4-28 | 0.2500 | #3 |

How do you measure tap connectors?
Use a ruler to measure across the thread diameter where the connector would attach. Include all the thread in your measurement. Now you’ve got your tap thread measurement, you can easily work out which tap connector is compatible for your tap.
How are taps measured?
They are the grooves or valleys cut into the body of the tap. Higher numbers of flutes increase the strength of the tap and reduce space or chip flow. Thread size is the number of Threads Per Inch (TPI) which is measured along the length of the tap. Metric sizes are referred to as thread pitch.
What size is tap hole?
Standard taps and spouts generally require a hole of at least 22mm in diameter. Monobloc mixer taps, taking both a hot and cold supply, mostly require a minimum 32mm diameter hole.
What size hole do you drill for a 1/4 28 tap?
Tap Drill Size Chart
| Bolt Size | Drill Size | Closest Fractional |
|---|---|---|
| 1/4-28 NF | #3 | 7/32″ |
| 1/4-32 NEF | 7/32″ | 7/32″ |
| 1/4-40 NS | #1 | – |
| 7mm-1.00mm | 6.1mm | 15/64″ |
What size drill do you use for tap?
Looking at the “Tap Drill Chart” section at the bottom, they recommend an “F” drill for a 5/16″-18 fastener. Then, looking up above at the “Decimal Equivalent Chart” section, an “F” drill measures 0.257″, about halfway between 1/4″ and 17/64″. Keeping this in view, how do you determine tap drill size?
What is the difference between NPT and mnpt fittings.?
The difference lies in the Plug Gage Major Diameter and Ring Gage Minor Diameter. But the most significant difference is the inspection required for each. With NPT, only a single plug with a step, an L1 plug for internal threads and a single thin L1 ring for external, are required to check size.
What is standard tap size?
Rules of thumb. A good tap drill is 85% (± 2 pp) of major diameter for coarse threads, and 90% (± 2 pp) of major diameter for fine threads.
